CustomerSat CEO Named to MIT Mathematics Visiting Committee
Committee Advises World-Renowned Institution on Research, Education, Strategy and Technology Transfer
Mountain View, CA – October 5, 2004 – CustomerSat, Inc.,
the leader in real-time feedback solutions for building customer
satisfaction and loyalty, today announced that John Chisholm,
Chairman and CEO of CustomerSat, has been named to the Visiting
Committee of the Department of Mathematics at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology for a four-year term. The committee
reports to the MIT Corporation (board of trustees) and advises
on all facets of education, research and administration for
the department.
“John's business experience, insight and energy will be highly
valuable to both the department and our committee,” said John
S. Reed, chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, former chairman
of Citigroup, and chair of the MIT visiting committee.
MIT visiting committees have strongly influenced the course
of research and education at the Institute for nearly 130
years. The committees advise the Corporation, senior administration,
and department heads, offering appraisal, counsel, and insight
on current activities and future directions. Approximately
425 distinguished scientists, engineers, executives, entrepreneurs,
and educators comprise the 31 committees.
Talent, Algorithms and Analytics
“The MIT math department has a long history of prescient
advances and innovations,” said Chisholm. “Its work in the
1980s in encryption and security, for example, is now integral
to all online commerce. The department, its students and faculty
are a goldmine of talent, algorithms and analytics. I look
forward to helping build awareness and support for the department’s
pioneering work, identify career and consulting opportunities
for its outstanding students and faculty, and transfer its
visionary innovations from academia to the commercial sector.”
Chisholm brings to MIT long experience in technology strategy,
research, and general management. He has guided CustomerSat’s
growth and leadership of the real-time feedback analytics
market since 1997. Before that, he founded and was CEO of
Decisive Technology, a provider of desktop software for online
research, and held management positions at HP and Xerox. He
holds bachelors and masters degrees in electrical engineering
and computer science from MIT and an MBA from Harvard Business
School. He is author of a US patent in Internet polling technology,
serves on the board of directors of the MIT Alumni Association,
and on numerous advisory boards.

The MIT math department is among the major centers globally
of applied and pure mathematics. World-leading education and
research areas include algorithm performance, combinatorial
optimization, communication theory, error correction, mathematical

for Mathematics,” was awarded in May to the department’s Professor
Isadore Singer for work bridging pure mathematics and theoretical
physics. The department has roughly 52 faculty members, 30
instructors, 125 graduate students, and each year graduates
about 140 undergraduate math majors, many of whom go on to
